Carol in the first project she made – a collar for Halloween

Students from our introductory course have been sharing photos of their works in progress and finished projects on the discussion boards and private Facebook group. We are excited about seeing the techniques in action and wanted to offer you a peek.

Most participants start the course by introducing themselves. What a diverse and creative bunch! There are several photographers looking to make costumes and props for shoots. There are performers of various sorts, including circus and bellydance. There are a wide range of ages, from full time college students (many studying in creative fields) to several retired people, finally giving themselves time for creative endeavors.

Some folks have regular jobs (bookkeeper, programmer), some are professional costumers – seamstresses, leatherwork. Most of the students attend cons regularly. There are several Burners and LARPers, a fantasy writer, a model and a cake decorator. We even have a custom trike builder and a professional pumpkin carver.

We have said for years that our customers are our best teachers. They challenge us to figure out things we would have never tried otherwise. Now our students are teaching us too! Each one brings a unique set of skills and interests. They are already trying things we haven’t thought of. We love answering their questions and seeing into their creative process.

It’s the beginning of what we imagined – a growing community of artists using these techniques and inspiring each other.

I hope this gives you a feel for the supportive and fun group we have. Enrollment in the course is ongoing. Learn more here.
